Chills & Thrills Night: “Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror” (1922) & “Night of The Living Dead” (1968)

Welcome mortals!

In honor of Spooky Season, the Atheneum invites you to come to the Great hall to enjoy some classic horror films from the early and mid 20th century! Light refreshments will be provided.

This Sunday’s double feature will be  “Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror” (1922) & “Night of the Living Dead” (1968)

Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror (1922)

An unauthorized and unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, this silent, German Expressionist film has survived the ire of Stoker’s heirs and went on to contribute greatly to the genre of horror by laying the foundation for future films to follow suit.  Directed by F.W. Murnau, this classic follows the story of the iconic vampire, Count Orlok as he preys on the innocent residents of a village.

Night of The Living Dead (1968)

This independent film directed by George A. Ramiro is often cited as a touchstone in the development of the horror film genre and is credited with cementing the modern portrayal of zombies in pop culture.  The film follows the story of several civilians that haul up inside an abandoned farm house in rural Pennsylvania who find themselves besieged by masses of re-animated corpses which have a powerful hunger for human flesh.
