Chills & Thrills Night: “Dementia”(1955) & “Carnival of Souls” (1962)

In honor of Spooky Season, the Atheneum invites you to come to the Great hall to enjoy some classic horror films from the early and mid 20th century! Light refreshments will be provided.

This Sunday’s double feature will be two pyschological horror films, “Dementia” (1955) & “Carnival of Souls” (1962)

Dementia (1955):

Written and directed by John Parker, this experimental horror film incorporates elements of horror, film noir and expressionist themes. A wordless, waking nightmare, the story is about a woman who wanders the streets of Los Angeles all the while encountering clues that something sinister is happening—and some of it is realer than she’d like it to be.

Carnival of Souls (1962):

A surrealist cult classic directed by Herk Harvey and set to an organ score by Gene Moore, this eerie film follows a troubled church organist, fleeing to escape horrifying memories of a traumatic event. She is intent on starting a new life for herself but finds her curiosity pulling her to the ruins of an abandoned carnival on the outskirts of town.
