An Evening of Eels: The Journey of a Living Mystery

Join eel enthusiast and educator Chris Bowser (NYS Department of Environmental Conservation) for a fascinating talk about the journey of American eels and how we can all play a role in fish conservation and stewardship. Eels are living mysteries that Chris has been studying for years through community science in New York’s Hudson River. He will discuss the impact of community science on this fish population and illuminate just how eel-usive these fish are!

Nantucket Conservation Foundation scientists Jisun Reiner and Isaac Hersh will also talk about their research on eels through the Nantucket Eel Project and how this new study brings accessible science to the broader Nantucket community.

CHRIS BOWSER is the Education Coordinator for the NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and the Hudson River Research Reserve, in partnership with the Water Resource Institute of Cornell University. Chris’s current work with the NYSDEC focuses on environmental education and citizen science in the Hudson River Valley. He also teaches environmental science at Marist College, and previously worked for the United States Peace Corps and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
