From the summer of 1939, when her parents met at an island beach party, her adoption in 1953, through the summer she left for college in 1971, the story captures a truly bygone era. Susan spent her first 11 summers living at India House, an historic inn and restaurant, enjoying freedom, long summer days and the quieter winters.
