Concert: Folias Duo
Join us in the Great Hall for a very special afternoon concert with the Folias Duo!
Folias Duo is a composer–performer ensemble for flute and guitar, blending classical music with jazz, world music, and improvisation. Flutist Carmen Maret and guitarist Andrew Bergeron have spent two decades developing a singular artistic voice, composing over 70 original works for their instrumentation — more than any duo of their kind worldwide.
Their discography includes eight albums, most recently Heartdance, described by Fanfare Magazine as “a life-enhancing experience.” They have performed over 700 concerts across the U.S., South America, and Europe. Bergeron’s broader works include a symphony, a guitar concerto, and a flute concerto, which premiered last fall.
Maret holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory and a Master of Music from Michigan State University. Bergeron holds a Bachelor of Arts from Grand Valley State University and a Master of Music from Michigan State University. They co-direct the Folias Music School and serve on the faculty at Aquinas College and Grand Rapids Community College.
Their artistry is inseparable from their way of life — built on intentional small-venue performance, self-directed touring, and a sustainable, independent model dedicated to craftsmanship, community, and the natural world.
