Foghorn Speaker Series: A One Trick Pony, Nantucket’s Economy
The next event in our Foghorn Speaker Series will feature a presentation by Chuck Allard and Tony Dumitru, highlighting the power of the island community’s collective will in making the most of life—and thriving—on a small island thirty miles out to sea. The European settlers arrived in small boats, tried a variety of 17th and 18th-century occupations, and eventually found that their economic future was tied to the ocean, their history, and the natural beauty of Nantucket Island. The journey was not easy; there were long periods of despair and poverty, but what of the future? Together, we will explore what worked, what did not, and the challenges ahead. Does this pony have another trick? Come and find out.
