Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events

Annually, Public Works hosts six FREE hazardous waste collection events for Household and Commercial Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) waste.

If you are cleaning out your house or moving, have left over or old products from a project or job, please bring your hazardous waste to the Collection Center on scheduled collection days for proper disposal.

Hazardous waste collection events are held at the Department of Public Works – Administration Offices, located at 188 Madaket Road, two driveways after the Landfill entrance.

How Collection Events Work

Upon entering the collection site, you will be greeted, given educational materials, and asked if you have mercury to recycle.

• Survey and Sort: While Household Hazardous Waste staff members sort your waste, a six question survey will be given.  This is an anonymous survey used for administrative and statistical purposes only.
• Collection: After being surveyed and sorted, you will be directed to the unloading station where your waste is then collected by the contracted hazardous waste hauler. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicles throughout the entire process.

Drop Off Procedures

• Stay in your vehicle at all times and follow the signs.
• Items must be easily reached in the trunk of your vehicle.
• DPW Employee will review your hazardous waste items at the tent.
• Contractor will remove items from your vehicle. All items in a box or container for easy collection. You will get your gas can or other containers back if requested.
