Lecture: Nantucket During the Revolution
Nantucket During the Revolution
This lecture explores how the first years of the American Revolution reshaped life on Nantucket, from the pressures of being neutral in a time of war to the struggles of food shortages, the hard winter, and attacks on the island. We will also bring individual stories to life, featuring Daniel Prior, sailor on the Bon Homme Richard; Frederick Folger, Town Clerk of Nantucket during the Revolution and ancestor of the speaker; and Aaron Snow, a private who settled on the island after serving in the war.
