Nantucket Star Count

Nantucket Lights is asking island residents to be “citizen scientists” and participate in the Globe at Night data collection project for at least one night between April 22 and April 30. You don’t need a telescope: use a smartphone or tablet to locate the constellation Leo. Step-by-step instructions are available at https://nantucketlights.org/nantucket-star-count.

And on Friday April 22 and Saturday April 23, if the weather cooperates, the Maria Mitchell Association will kick-off the week with Open Nights at Loines Observatory (59 Milk Street Extension) to provide in-person guidance. From 8:30pm to 10:00pm, astronomers will be on hand to explain the steps involved and answer any questions so that participants can span out and report observations from all over the island during the rest of the week. No registration is required.
