Pride Youth Film Festival

As part of Nantucket Pride Month, The Nantucket Atheneum is excited to host the Pride Youth Film Festival in collaboration with the Nantucket Pride, Wicked Queer Film Festival and Nantucket New School’s Lunch Bunch.

Wicked Queer: Boston’s LGBTQ+ Film Festival (formerly the Boston LGBT Film Festival) was founded in 1984 by film programmer George Mansour. Wicked Queer is the 4th longest running LGBTQ+ Film Festival in North America and is an all volunteer organization. Our mission is to build community and to celebrate Queer storytelling and filmmaking through the uplifting of voices and stories not yet heard and to present and preserve the vibrancy of our histories. Wicked Queer is a sponsored project of the Queer Film Institute. At this year’s festival, we invite you to join us as we examine several short films, including “My Life At The Beginning”“A Spot For Frog”, “Shall We Talk” and“The Talk”. Following the first two titles there will be a brief Q&A with Claire Winship and The Lunch bunch. Two more titles following this there will be another Q & A for Parents of LGBTQ Youth followed by a brief intermission before the feature film : “Esther Newton Made Me Gay”

We would like to thank NISDA for their support, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, for a grant to bring these films to the island.
