Suminagashi: The Art of Paper Marbling with Nate Garrett
Suminagashi, literally translated as “floating ink”, is an art form dating back to the 12th century in Japan. Originally practiced by applying black sumi or indigo ink to the surface of water and then capturing the swirls and flows of ink on paper.
This workshop will focus on using various traditional and modern techniques and materials to create marbled designs suitable for use in other art projects as well as stand alone art pieces. Participants will learn the basics of suminagashi using traditional and modern inks and papers to achieve truly unique results. Suminagashi printed papers are perfect for Gyotaku Fish printing.
