Unwind Under the Whale: Transcription Night

Grab your laptop and participate in Transcription Night at the Whaling Museum! NHA staff will guide you through the transcription process, so no experience is necessary. View objects from the NHA archive vaults, eat pizza, mingle with fellow transcribers, and participate in our transcribing competition!

You’ll view primary documents in the NHA archives such as ship’s logs, handwritten letters, and journal entries. Our research library staff will teach you how to transcribe these historic documents, providing tips for interpreting historic cursive handwriting. Join us for this evening where you will get to pour through fascinating historic documents with others at your table. Who will transcribe the most pages in one hour?! Bring your own laptop (or tablet) on Friday, May 3rd and we will find out!
