Where It Happened: Nantucket’s Historic Places – Nantucket Railroad
Step aboard the Egan Maritime’s Shipwreck Shuttle and journey through time to uncover the stories and tracks of the iconic Nantucket Railroad. Between 1881 and 1918, the railroad chugged across the island from Steamship Wharf to Surfside and later to Sconset, leaving a legacy of adventure and calamity. We will retrace its path and relive the tales that made the Nantucket Railroad a symbol of resilience and ingenuity. Your guide, Tony Dumitru, Manager of Collections and Exhibitions, will lead the way with a PowerPoint presentation at the Egan Maritime Office. This will be followed by a trek along the train’s historic route from Steamboat Wharf to Surfside and Sconset.
History comes alive on the Shipwreck Shuttle! Participants will be picked up and dropped off at the Saltmarsh Center.
